Extra credit - Sustainable tourism

Hi guys!!

Here you have the volunteer work:

Sustainable tourism is tourism that aims to minimise its impact on the environment and local culture. It does this by:

•    Reducing the amount of energy it uses and/or using energy from renewable sources, for example by fitting solar panels
•    Reducing the amount of water and other resources that it uses
•    Reducing waste
•    Being part of the local community, for example by employing local people
•    Preserving local traditions and culture

The project consists in designing a sustainable tourism project for your region (Castille and Leon). Produce a leaflet (Be creative!) to advertise your project. Include:

•    The type of accommodation
•    The activities you would provide
•    Why it is sustainable

To get ideas:
•    Look at the New Zealand case study
•    This website about Castille and Leon.

Organize a trip/travel

This team work is designed to better know places to visit near to where you live. You are going to organize a trip to an interesting place in the Iberian Peninsula in order to get to know its tourist resources. After that, you are going to prepare an oral presentation to present your work to your classmates (the presentation should take less than 10 minutes).

1. Task:
You and your partner are going to organize a trip to a place that is interesting for you due to its cultural or natural resources, or its leisure activities. The trip will be for a weekend, so it should be close to our village.

2. Process:
In pairs you have to decide different aspects of the trip:
•    Place to visit
•    Transport:
What type of transport are you going to take?
•    Look for different resources of the city/village/region:
Cultural resources of tourism
Natural resources of tourism
Leisure activities
•    Organize the schedule of your trip:
What are you going to do on Saturday?
What are you going to do on Sunday?
Where are you going to sleep?
Where are you going to eat?
•    How much money are you going to spend? (for two people)

3. Conclusion:
Your aim is to be selected by Kristie and I as the best trip to carry out. You have to convince us to choose your trip. We have been saving money for it, but we don’t know which places are interesting to visit. We are going to consider some aspects:
•    A logical time to spend on traveling (it’s only a weekend)
•    The cost of the trip. We have been saving money, but we don’t have too much (it should be something reasonable)
•    The activities that you propose to do (it should be a variety of activities, cultural, natural, sports…, to be interesting for different people with different interests or hobbies)
•    If there is a place chosen by more than one group, the mark would be divided (you have to make an agreement to choose different places, cities…)

4. Due dates:
Days to work in class: 7/5 & 16/5
Due date for the project: 21/5
Presentation in class: 21/5

Responsible consumption & the fair market

The market economy doesn’t work properly; the prices of the products we buy aren’t always as fair as they should be and it causes poverty in less economically developed countries.

We live in the mass culture, and we always want more and more things to be completely happy. But, if we stop and think about it, do we really need all these things to be happy? To ask this question is the first step to becoming a responsible consumer, and then we can buy only what we need, not what advertising tell us to. What can we do to become a responsible consumer? Make groups of four and give ideas!!

Something we can do to help producers in the poorest countries all over the world, is fair trade. Fair trade is a way to change the world by making simple shopping decisions. Here you have more information:

Now, we have to think about what we can do in the future to encourage fair trade in our school, family or city. Make groups of four and give ideas!! Here you have one example:

To finish the project, you have to imagine that we’ll open a fair trade shop in Villamayor and we want to make an advertisement to show everyone in Villamayor how fair trade works. So, you have to make a poster (glogster.com) to get consumers to our new shop.

The Spanish Constitution - 1978

Hi guys!!

We are going to study the State of Spain, its politics and territory.

The most important law in Spain is the Constitution, which was passed in 1978, and all citizens must obey it.

The Constitution regulates the most important aspects of Spain's political system and learning about it helps us to get to know our rights, honour our responsibilities and participate in politics.

The project for this unit is about the Constitution: you have got the instructions in the link:

I hope you'll enjoy it!!

That's all!
